Learning, Growing, and Thriving: Emily’s Dynamic Career in Web Design

Emily Armbruster graduated from Central Connecticut State University, with a Bachelor’s in Graphic/Information Design, in May 2020 – during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic. At the time, she was also working as a freelance graphic designer for O&G Industries in Torrington, CT. Working with O&G was Emily’s initial step into the field. She knew she didn’t want to freelance forever and wanted to work at a digital marketing agency. She desired to work with different clients on multiple projects rather than only one company. Emily scored a job at Develomark, a digital marketing agency in Plantsville, CT, in December 2020.

During her first two months at Develomark, Emily and the rest of the team worked totally remote. Even though she worked from home and hadn’t met any of her coworkers in person, Emily fell in love with the world of digital marketing. Her role was a web designer, but she enjoyed seeing how all of the different departments worked together to get a result for the client. This was just the beginning of what Emily was going to learn. In February, once the beautiful new Develomark office was built out and everyone was a little more comfortable venturing outside of their homes, Emily finally got to see this digital marketing agency in full action. From the first day in office, she knew that this was where she was meant to be.

Fast forward almost four years, and Emily has learned so much from her time at Develomark. She is now their Senior Web Designer. Emily has been given many opportunities to learn within her career at Develomark. From educating herself on the latest web design trends, to dipping her toes in the world of SEO, Emily has gained the vital knowledge she has needed so far.

Earlier this year, she decided the next step in her career was to pursue a master’s degree. Emily knew she wanted to learn more than graphic and web design. That is what led her to find the Interactive Media and Communications program at Quinnipiac University. With its large course catalog, Emily felt that she could expand her knowledge further than graphic design. Her role within Develomark can grow and adapt as she learns, so Emily knew that this level of education would lead to success. Emily plans to use her knowledge from Quinnipiac to help educate her team on this ever-changing world of digital storytelling.
