Research Methods and Approach

To assess the usability of the WeGym WeHa website, a variety of research techniques were used:

  • Comparative Analysis: A comparative analysis was used to evaluate the effectiveness of websites belonging to WeGym’s local competitors.
  • Persona Development: Personas were developed to analyze different user groups who would be common WeGym members.
  • User Interview: An interview was proposed to gather qualitative insights from site users.
  • User Survey: A user survey was proposed to gather quantitative data from users.
  • Diary Study: A diary study was proposed to understand long term user interactions with the site.
  • Card Sort: A card sort exercise was conducted to evaluate how users would group new pages on the website.
  • Heuristic Evaluation: A heuristic evaluation was conducted to asses site usability based on established UX principles.
  • Usability Test: A usability test took place to allow observation of real user completing particular website tasks.

Key Findings and Usability Challenges

The research found several usability issues that impacted user engagement on the site. One of the major challenges identified was information accessibility. While the site was easy to navigate, users struggles to find essential details like pricing and trainer information. The lack of a dedicated pricing page and trainer details left users feeling very frustrated and uninformed. Also, the website lacks engaging design elements compared to its competitors. Without elements such as videos and member testimonials, the website does not capture user interest effectively. This lack of trust building elements reduces confidence in the gym’s offerings.

Recommended Improvements

Based on the findings, there are several enhancements that can improve the overall user experience. To address the information accessibility issue, creating a dedicated pricing page that clearly outlines membership options and current specials will ensure that the content is easy to locate. Also, changing the scheduling interface to display the next available class would reduce the number of click a user has to make and enhance usability. To boost engagement, adding videos from the classes, current member testimonials, and trainer introductions would be recommended. It would also increase engagement by updating the site’s hero section with call-to-action buttons prompting the user to sign up for a free class and explore membership options. Trust and credibility can be strengthened by adding in-depth bios that include their training experience and certifications.

Usability Testing Insights

After the usability test, these recommendations were validated and highlighted specific areas of improvement. Participants found that the class schedule should load the next available class when none were available on that specific day rather than show no classes available. They also struggled to find pricing information which reinforced the need for a dedicated pricing page. Also, the lack of information on the instructors page made it difficult for them to make a decision on whose class they would potentially take. On a positive note, participants were able to find the contact information quickly making that a strong point of the site.

The Impact of UX on a Gym’s Success

By implementing these user-centered improvements, WeGym WeHa can create a more engaging experience for their current and potential members. These improvements will help usability while also boosting customer trust, increase conversions, and position the gym more competitively in their area. This research shows that a well designed website is more than just looks. It directly influences users behavior and ultimately business revenue.
